Abstract: A mathematical interpretation of the basic qualitative requirements for functions of forgetting is proposed. The author describes the different options of the "braking" function in the decay of the memory trace, introduced by Wayne Wickelgren into the differential equation of the probability of saving the learned information. The impact on the forgetting functions behavior and their compliance to basic requirements are investigated. A new solution for the equation that describes the behavior of the curves of forgetting is obtained, which is quantitatively similar to the results of the memorization through intense repetitions.
Keywords: forgetting curves, retention curves, the function wickelgren
