Abstract: The work is aimed at solving different issues related to student startup preparation, where the main one is a lack of understanding of the real requirements of the consumer for the product. The study identified the grounds of the problem. An assessment has been carried out to better understand the influence of the identified reasons and grounds, as well as the proposed alternatives to solving the problem using the hierarchy analysis method. A model of the process of preparing a student startup with a depth of decomposition up to the fifth level is proposed. This model allows eliminating several root causes of the problem simultaneously. The model contains stages that allow: to link the process under study with the research process at the university and increase the number of projects based on scientific and technical developments of the university; to develop a product concept focused on the problem of the consumer and with his participation; to efficiently translate the identified needs and wishes of consumers into technical characteristics of the product through the method of structuring the quality function QFD.

Keywords: technological entrepreneurship, student startup, innovation process at a university, problem of misunderstanding consumer’s needs, model for startup preparation, product hypothesis, development of a startup product concept
