Annotation: The article gives the classification of experiments and a question of usage of the term «virtual and physical experiment». The basic principles of mathematical theory of experiment are briefly stated. The application examples of the theory of experiment in research on optimization and automation of welding processes by friction and heat treatment of cutting tools are given. The multilevel classification of experiment is offered.
