Abstract: A method to calculate the range of the radar sensor for security systems is considered. It is shown that in certain situations the range has two bounds: the lower, determined by signal backscattered by an underlying surface, and the upper, determined by the receiver noise. An appropriate 5th degree range equation is obtained and the area of existence of positive roots is found. An example of the radar range calculating is given.
