Abstract: Relevance. The use of ultra-wideband signals in nonlinear sensing systems is limited due to the fact that the useful nonlinear response of typical small electronic objects is significantly weaker than the inherent distortions in the receiving paths and digitizers. To address this challenge, it is necessary to increase the relative level of the nonlinear response. A promising solution is an intermodulation sensing method using a two-component signal, where the low-frequency part affects the degree of nonlinearity of the object's state, and the high-frequency part affects the reading of this state, which makes it possible to optimize both components separately and achieve a significant increase in response compared to antipolar step pulses. Purpose of the study is to parameterize a behavioral model of nonlinear scattering in relation to the intermodulation sensing method to predict the nonlinear response of small electronic devices over an extended range of field strengths. Methods. The work is based on a behavioral model of nonlinear scattering, which describes the transformation of a test signal's shape into a nonlinear response via a transfer characteristic calculated from experimentally recorded pairs of (probing field - nonlinear response) in the frequency domain. Parameterization for the intermodulation technique is based on experimental data. For a two-component signal, the main channel's transfer characteristics is calculated and a nonlinear influence function that approximates the response amplitude's dependence on field strength across the entire range is selected. Novelty. A transfer characteristic is proposed for the intermodulation method, taking into account both firstand second-order nonlinear effects. A fourth-order power function, with an amplitude constraint, is incorporated into the model, allowing adequate description of the nonlinear response over a wide range of field strengths. Results. Based on experimental data, it is shown that the intermodulation method increases the nonlinear response of an object by four times compared to the method of opposite-polarity step signals. The parameterized behavioral model describes this response with an error not exceeding 7.5%, which is considered an acceptable result. Practical significance. The parameterized model can be utilized during the design phase of nonlinear sensing systems in order to forecast the nonlinear responses of small objects.
